'Empowering Childbirth: Choices for Optimal Attachment,' Don C. Creevy, MD
Since being present at the unmedicated birth of his first daughter as a medical student in 1958, Don Creevy has been intensely interested in the psychological and sociological aspects of human birth. This experience led him into four years of residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Stanford, where he found a profound lack of knowledge of much beyond the anatomy and physiology of pregnancy and birth on the part of most of his teachers. With a background in anthropology and inspiration from such pioneers as Grantley Dick-Read, David Cheek, Sheila Kitzinger, and Michel Odent, he has spent his obstetrical career trying to be as sensitive as possible to the psychosocial and cultural needs of his patients and their families. He will share with us some of his experiences and observations drawn from over 45 years of life and practice during this fascinating time in obstetrical history.
